Ofloxacin 2mg/ml Inf.

Ofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone (flor-o-KWIN-o-lone) antibiotic that fights bacteria in the body. Ofloxacin is used to treat bacterial infections of the skin, lungs, prostate, or urinary tract (bladder and kidneys). Ofloxacin is also used to treat pelvic inflammatory disease and Chlamydia and/or gonorrhea. Ofloxacin should be used only for infections that cannot be treated with a safer antibiotic.

Advantages

Antimicrobial Intravenous (IV) administration can provide clinical and practical advantages over longer IV infusions in multiple clinical scenarios, including in the emergency department, in fluid-restricted patients, and when supplies of diluents are limited. In these cases, antibiotic intravenous infusion therapy is the last line of defense against microbes.

Indication

Ofloxacin is indicated in adults for the treatment of the following bacterial infections:
- Acute Pyelonephritis and complicated urinary tract infections
- Bacterial prostatitis, epididymo-orchitis
- Pelvic inflammatory disease, in combination with other antibacterial agents
- Urosepsis
For the below-mentioned infections ofloxacin should be used only when it is considered inappropriate to use antibacterial agents that are commonly recommended for the initial treatment of these infections:
- Complicated skin and soft-tissue infections
- Acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease including bronchitis
- Community acquired pneumonia
Consideration should be given to official guidance on the appropriate use of antibacterial agents.
